Tea Party Update

I actually live in the Northwest, but we are moving down to Texas (hopefully sooner than later - depending on the market & how fast we can get our house finished.) We bought land in New Braunfels, Texas a couple of years ago & took a trip down to Texas last week to visit & relax. So we weren't able to attend our T.E.A. party in Portland, OR - but we were able to attend the T.E.A. party in Austin, TX at the capital (late afternoon). It was fabulous to renew our spirit and to be with other conservatives who value our freedoms. A peaceful, law-abiding and amazing time was had by all! . 5000+ folks attended. After the speeches (from State Senator Dan Patrick, Congressman Michael McCaul, Republican activist Joe Petronis, and Free Market Foundation's Jonathan Saenz.) and songs, we walked from the Capitol to the Lake. The crowds walked down Congress Avenue to ceremonially dump boxes into Lady Bird Lake, the crowd stretched from Cesar Chavez Street to the steps of the Capitol. In response, police had to block off four lanes of the street during rush hour. While marching, the crowd spanned from the lake up to the hill! Very impressive. Crates of tea were thrown in the lake and picked up by wild Indians in canoes.

CNN had some but protrayed the crowds as “angry”. This was definitely not true, we were concerned, worried, fearful and disgusted by what is happening to our country - but it was definitely not an angry, violent mob of protesters.

In an amazing display of free-market ideals, hundreds of thousands turned out for tea parties across the country! It empowered conservatives to continue to fight the good fight. It was a great success in that the rally awakened the silent majority of our country to become involved and to understand that many others like themselves are interested in furthering the prosperity of this nation through adherence to our constitutional principles. I am so glad we were able to be a part of it.

Here are some photos from the day, my husband took tons of all the signs we saw - but here are a few general photos.

Later that evening we watched CNN (now why did we do such a stupid thing like that after such a great day). At those locations where CNN bothered to cover the events, they often-times avoided reporting on the facts. Watch this CNN coverage of the event. If this doesn’t get you upset, I don’t know what will! However, exercising our rights to freedom of speech and freedom to assemble was on full display, and a vivid reminder that we indeed live in the greatest country on earth.

CNN Correspondent Claims Tea Parties ‘Anti-Government,’ ‘Anti-CNN’

After anchor Anderson Cooper made an obscene sexual joke about attendees, CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen rudely interrupted one of the protestors and slammed the event for being "anti-government," "anti-CNN," and "not really family viewing."

Roesgen asked a man holding his toddler, "Why are you here today?" The man started to respond saying, "Because I hear a president say that he believed in what Lincoln stood for. Lincoln's primary thing was he believed people had the right to liberty and they had the right..."

But Roesgen cut him off him, saying, "But sir, what does that have to do with taxes? What does this have to do with your taxes?" She continued asking questions over his as he asked her to "let me finish my point." One crowd member was heard to yell "shut up" to the Roesgen.

When the man finished his statement about people having the "right to the fruits of their own labor" and "government should not take it," Roesgen began arguing with him again and other protesters began to get upset.

Roesgen backed away claiming that "you get the general tenor of this," tea party. "Anti-government, anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network Fox and since I can't really hear much more and I think this is not really family viewing. Toss it back to you Kyra," Roesgen concluded.

Phillips followed by calling that assessment "a "prime example of what we're following across the country."

Here are some interesting facts about Susan Roesgen:

"An interesting little detail emerged today about new right wing public enemy #1 CNN reporter Susan Roesgen. She twice applied for a job at Fox News. She applied in January and September 2005 and was turned down. Is Roesgen bitter, or is this just business as usual for cable news?

According to Gawker, “Back in 2005, though, according to a Fox News source, Roesgen really wanted to work for that right-wing conservative network. She sent a tape of her on-air work to Fox's then-programming chief Kevin Magee in January 2005, and followed up with another reel to Magee's successor Bill Shine in September 2005. Needless to say, she didn't get the gig.”
CNN is not an American News Station anymore, they stopped being about journalism long ago. They are the start of a socialist media station that is willing to do the bidding of one American party.

Here are some more facts about Susan Roesgen and her "reporting":
Susan Roesgen:

1. Was offended by protestor calling NObama a facist, however, in January 2006 at a protest, she joked about a protester who wore a George W. Bush mask with a Hitler moustache and devil horns
2. Asks a protester a question, but won’t allow the answer.
3. Pay close attention when she pooh pooh’s the tax burden on the American people by saying “but you get a $400 tax credit” followed up with “but the Land of Lincoln got $50 billion in stimulus”

Here are some more examples of the outrageous coverage from the liberal media: (for more example - click the link from the mediaresearch.org)

  • Tea Parties = "Group Therapy" for Crazy Conservatives "All of these tax day parties seemed less about revolution and more about group therapy. At least with the more widely known protest against government spending, people attending the rallies were dressed patriotically and held signs expressing their anger, but offering no solutions."-- New York Times reporter Liz Robbins in an April 15 online article about that day's anti-tax "tea parties." The paragraph was taken out of the version that appeared in the Times' April 16 print edition.
  • "Cheered on by Fox News and talk radio, the hundreds of tea parties today were designed to protest the bailouts, the stimulus plan, and President Obama's budget....But critics on the left say this is not a real grassroots phenomenon at all, that it's actually largely orchestrated by people fronting for corporate interests....While the Boston Tea Party in 1773 was about taxation without representation, critics point out that today's protesters did get to vote -- they just lost. What's more, polls show most Americans don't feel overtaxed." -- ABC's Dan Harris on World News, April 15.
  • CBS's Dean Reynolds: "They came to vent their outrage in big gatherings and small groups over what they see as runaway government spending, and the tax hikes they suspect are right around the corner....While he [national organizer Eric Odom] insisted these events were non-partisan, a fistful of rightward leaning Web sites and commentators-" -- CBS Evening News, April 15.
  • "There's been some grassroots conservatives who have organized so-called 'tea parties' around the company, country, hoping the historical reference will help galvanize Americans against the President's economic ideas. But I tell you, the idea hasn't really caught on. The RNC has jumped in. A few other talk radio hosts have jumped in, but it hasn't galvanized the party the way they would hope."-- NBC's Chuck Todd on Today, April 15, hours before the anti-tax rallies began.

Prop 8 opponents hacked into LDS site

Is this a legal way to protest??? I don't think so...

"Owners of a Web site that specializes in advice and information for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints say their site was attacked the day following passage of Proposition 8 by people they believe opposed the measure.

Scott Proctor of Meridian magazine said the site was hacked into early Nov. 5, and its home page was replaced with "horrible, explicit lesbians films placed all over the cover." Engineers took the site down immediately after the break-in was discovered, he said.

"We feel like this was very specific targeting," by people who oppose the Web site's conservative content. The church's support of Prop. 8 has been among a variety of topics chronicled on the site. "We get hate mail all the time over this issue," Proctor said."

Homosexual activists accused of 'domestic terrorism'

Letters were sent to the Salt Lake City headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where powder spilled on a mail clerk's hand, and also to a temple in Los Angeles. Priliminary tests have found the white powdery substance found in both packages tested nontoxic, the FBI said Friday.

"The FBI on Friday also said it has labeled its probe into the incidents as a domestic terrorism investigation.

"Obviously it instills fear in the public eye and causes people not to feel safe," Becerra said. "It is illegal to mail something out and to threaten the use of a biological weapon or even pretend it's a biological weapon."

The LDS temples in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles received envelopes on Thursday containing a powdery substance. So did the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization based in New Haven, Conn. Both organizations were heavy backers of Proposition 8, the measure in California that narrowly passed Nov. 4, banning same-sex marriage.

LDS temples in California, Salt Lake City and New York have been the subject of mass demonstrations over the faith's heavy involvement in the campaign to pass Proposition 8. More demonstrations are planned this weekend over marriage and gay rights — including three in Salt Lake City."
from: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705263061,00.html?pg=2

"The FBI is still investigating both cases, spokesman Juan T. Becerra said, noting that it's a crime to release a substance to threaten harm and stoke public fear.

"Even if you send a hoax threat, you're still in violation of federal law," Becerra said.

Separately, the coalition of religious groups behind the successful measure held a news conference to denounce protests carried out since Election Day.

The backlash has included calls for a boycott of Utah ski resorts and California businesses whose owners donated to the cause.

"Our opponents do not like the outcome and that is to be respected. They fought hard and they feel defeated and that is understandable," said Frank Schubert, co-manager of the Yes on 8 campaign. "What they do not have the right to do, however, is to harass and intimidate people. And they do not have the right to commit acts of domestic terrorism against our supporters"."

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' First Presidency issued a statement Friday urging respect and civility in public discourse:

"Since the people of California voted to reaffirm the sanctity of traditional marriage between a man and a woman on November 4, 2008, places of worship have been targeted by opponents of Proposition 8 with demonstrations and, in some cases, vandalism. People of faith have been intimidated for simply exercising their democratic rights. These are not actions that are worthy of the democratic ideals of our nation. The end of a free and fair election should not be the beginning of a hostile response in America.

The Church is keenly aware of the differences of opinion on this difficult and sensitive matter. The reasons for this principled stand in defense of marriage have already been articulated elsewhere. However, some of what we have seen since Californians voted to pass Proposition 8 has been deeply disappointing.

Attacks on churches and intimidation of people of faith have no place in civil discourse over controversial issues. People of faith have a democratic right to express their views in the public square without fear of reprisal. Efforts to force citizens out of public discussion should be deplored by people of goodwill everywhere.

We call upon those who have honest disagreements on this issue to urge restraint upon the extreme actions of a few that are further polarizing our communities and urge them to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other."

Phyllis Burgess WILL file charges against her homosexual attackers...

The elderly California woman that was attacked during a protest of proposition WILL file charges against homosexuals who attacked her.

Yay! I am glad - it is time we hold them accountable.

"Last Friday evening, homosexual activists and their supporters gathered at the Palm Springs City Hall, protesting voter approved Prop. 8, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Phyllis Burgess went to the rally, and carried a Styrofoam cross through the crowd.

As ABC affiliate KESQ-TV carried that rally live, homosexuals surrounded the 69-year-old woman, began pushing her, reportedly spit on her, and grabbed the cross from her arms and threw it on the ground.

She says she went to the rally "just to get my remarks across at my city hall, where I have lived for 30 years." She adds: "If it takes endangerment, should that stop me? I'm a senior -- we respect elder abuse in this city".

Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and Families says the attack on Burgess is one of many incidents in California directed at supporters of traditional marriage.

Thomasson equates their behavior with a toddler's temper tantrum,... "America needs to see the true face of the homosexual activists who are intolerant against people of faith and anyone who believes in real marriage between a man and a woman," he contends.

According to Thomasson, the peaceful marches of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., are drastically different than the recent violent displays, mainly because King was seeking natural civil rights and homosexuals are demanding public endorsement of their "unnatural sexual behavior"."

More on Prop 8

California voters can't get a break.

They have voted, not once, but twice, to ban same-sex marriage.

In 2000, voters approved Proposition 22 with nearly two-thirds of the vote only to have it overturned by the state Supreme Court in May, which stated that banning same-sex marriage violated the equal protection clause of the state constitution because it allowed a majority to take away rights intended for everyone.

Last Tuesday, Californians approved Proposition 8, which amended the state constitution to define marriage as being between one man and one woman, but the issue is before the Court again after opponents sued. Opponents of Prop 8 are hoping the Court's original argument will still hold.

So who makes the laws now??

Traditionally the role of the court is: "The judicial branch hears cases that challenge or require interpretation of the legislation." from whitehouse.gov

I guess we now that 52% of Americans have voted for Obama that means we all have agreed to have a living constitution that we can change at will.

Now the courts can MAKE the laws as well as INTERPRET the laws. - (but actually that's not new, the courts have been doing that for years)...

Anyways, back to the news...

Pro-homosexual activists are going to have a "National Day of Protest" tomorrow. Before they lost all three of the marriage initiatives, they were declaring themselves champions of tolerance, diversity and respect for others.
They have chosen a clenched fighting fist logo for their "Fight the H8 (Hate)"
campaign. They are overtly attacking Mormon temples and evangelical Christian churches and now proclaim themselves "ready to rumble."

They have attacked the Mormon prophet - President Thomas S. Monson (see video below) - stating that he doesn't follow his own advice:
"Mormon Pres. Tom Monson should have taken some of his own advice and applied it toward his official stance on California Proposition 8, but apparently one of Tom's most vivid learning experiences was not vivid enough."

The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has never condoned abusive treatment of anyone. "No on Prop 8" supporters state that churches are not following their own advice of following Christ and loving one another. This is a very weak argument. When did Christ say it was OK to change the truths in the bible and encourage his flock to sin? When did he preach that we should accept and embrace each others' sins. He told the women who was taken in adultery to go and sin no more. He didn't tell the elders to embrace her sin and force them to teach their children that this sin was acceptable. He told them not to condemn her, but told the women to go and sin no more. (John 8:1-11).

Same-sex marriage advocates want to quote the bible, however they pick and choose which parts of the bible they want to obey - Naturally they haven't chosen to quote the "go and sin no more" passage as that is one of teachings of Christ they don't want to follow. We do not condemn homosexuals, we do not force them to go to church, listen to sermons, live our lifestyle; but we don't embrace their sin. We do not want to be forced to have our children learn this lifestyle in the schools and to be forced to embrace this lifestyle.

Working to protect marriage is not mean-spirited. It is the legitimate response of the majority of people who want what is best for individuals, children and our society. When rights for same-sex couples are expanded, freedom of speech and religion are threatened. Even motherhood and fatherhood are challenged. Here are some examples:

"In Massachusetts and Spain, parents can no longer be referred to as mother and father on birth certificates. They must be designated as "Party A and B" and "Progenitor A and B" respectively. (This ignores the biological fact that only one member of a same-sex couple can possibly be the "progenitor.")

After same-sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts, Catholic Charities, a major facilitator of adoptions, had to drop their adoption program because they knew they would be required to by law to facilitate adoption of children to same-sex couples and they did not want to face lawsuits.

A photographer in New Mexico was fined $6,500 for politely declining to photograph a "commitment ceremony" of two lesbians because same-sex relationships violated her religious beliefs.

A church in New Jersey lost its tax-exempt status for some of it's property for refusing to rent out it's pavilion for a lesbian "commitment ceremony."

Because they refused to advertise homosexual California couples as potential adoptive parents, the largest adoption advertising company on the Internet can no longer advertise any couples from California as potential adoptive parents.

Pastors in Sweden and Canada were prosecuted for speaking out publicly against same-sex marriage based on their reading of biblical scripture. Two Bible publishers in the U.S. have been sued over biblical teachings against homosexuality.

Doctors in California were sued for declining to artificially inseminate a lesbian women because it was against their religious beliefs. The court ruled against the doctors and ordered them to pay damages.

The very existence of an organization like American Mother's Inc. could potentially be threatened if laws are passed allowing same-sex marriage. The goal of the opposition is to eliminate all references to mothers and fathers in our society under the guise of discrimination.
"
(- Excerpts from a Family Policy Brief issued by Family Watch International)

"In Massachusetts, GLSEN is famous (or infamous) for what's become known as "fistgate." On March 25, 2000, GLSEN sponsored, along with the Massachusetts Department of Education, a taxpayer-funded conference. Its goals included putting Gay/Straight Alliances into more Massachusetts schools, and expanding homosexual teaching into lower grades.

Many gay-friendly teachers (who received development credits for being there) and administrators attended, along with students who were bussed in from their home districts. One particular workshop was listed as a "youth only, ages 14-21" session, run by three self-professed gay presenters. Thanks to two members of a local Parents' Rights Coalition who secretly taped the session, we know exactly what happened. One of the teachers asked the assembled students what "fisting" meant. Following a descriptive definition, another of the adult presenters proceeded to demonstrate the proper formation of the hand for this sexual act. After a student of about 16 said that it didn't sound very appealing, the third adult presenter calmed his concerns. This technique, she explained, "often gets a really bad rap," and that it was "an experience of letting somebody into your body that you want to be that close and intimate with." Other homosexual acts were discussed and described in detail."

My question: Why are we still fighting this? The people of California have already spoken twice! The Majority of Californians do not want this forced indoctrination of the homosexual agenda infiltrated in the school and churches.

"...Anti-Prop. 8 rabble-rousers continue to wreak havoc on Mormon churches in several cities and states and blacklisting peaceful voters who supported the ballot measure. It is getting very ugly out there and no one in the Democratic leadership has stepped up to condemn the insane rage..." - Michell Malkin

A Bunch of Sore Losers!

I found this site (http://www.zefrank.com/from52to48withlove/) on a tip from Michelle Malkin.
Isn't it IRONIC - when we lose the libs want us to be good losers - come and work together, support each other, make peace, join them - blah blah blah - There are hundreds of photos like these displayed on this site showing us how we should all work together now.

But when they lose - It is a different story!!!

It is perfectly OK for the the anti-Prop. 8 mob block traffic, impede businesses, harasses elderly couples, target churches that encouraged their members to stand for traditional values and morals, target individuals who supported the proposition, etc. -the list goes and on.

Gov. Arnie tells the mob to not give up until it is overturned.

What about following their own advice of accepting the will of the people???

52% of California voted for this measures (just like 52% voted for Obama) -so it is time to stop the protest and for us all come together, etc. The libs need to make a website for all the anti Prop 8 people displaying photos of happy people who voted differently on prop 8 & how well we can get along even though we voted differently.

Why is it totally acceptable for the libs to be sore losers???

"Live and Let Live..."

The same-sex marriage advocates claim that this is their motto and we conservatives should do the same. But if you don't agree with their viewpoint - they'll ruin you and run you out of a job.

"Scott Eckern, the Sacramento theater director whose political donation in support of California's Prop. 8 ban on same-sex marriage has become a lightning rod in the debate over gay rights, resigned today. He said he wanted to protect the California Musical Theatre, his artistic home since 1984, from further controversy"

"I am disappointed that my personal convictions have cost me the opportunity to do what I love the most," Eckern, the nonprofit stage company's artistic director since 2003, said in a written statement released today by a manager from Randle's firm. Eckern did not return calls Tuesday and Wednesday. In his statement, he said he decided to resign "after prayerful consideration." He apologized "for any harm or injury" taken from his support of Prop. 8, but also affirmed his right "to act upon my belief that the traditional definition of marriage should be preserved."

"This is a highly emotional issue and the accusations that have been made against me are simply not true," he added."

Gay rights protesters disrupt Sunday service

"Protesters who entered the Creyts Road church along with worshippers surprised the congregation when they stood up during the service, threw fliers at churchgoers and shouted slogans such as "It's OK to be gay," and "Jesus was a homo," according to David Williams, communications director at the church.

Another group of protesters demonstrated outside the church at the same time as the indoor protest.

According to a report on the Bash Back group's news site, protesters inside the church pulled a fire alarm, unfurled a banner from the church balcony, shouted and threw fliers to the worshippers.

Outside the church, protesters carried picket signs and an upside-down, pink cross.

Mount Hope Church, affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination, teaches followers that homosexuality is a sin.

However, "Mount Hope Church strives to follow Jesus' example of loving the sinner but not the sin," Williams said."
- from: http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20081112/NEWS01/811120369

"The goal of this particular action was made clear on a progressive blog:

"I can tell you that we are targeting a well-known anti-queer, anti-choice radical right wing establishment."

A little background on the "radical right wing establishment" in question:

Mount Hope, for the record, is an evangelical, bible believing church whose members provide free 24 hour counseling, prayer lines, catastrophic care for families dealing with medical emergencies, support groups for men, women and children dealing with a wide variety of life's troubles, crisis intervention, marriage ministries, regular, organized volunteer work in and around the city, missions in dozens of countries across the globe, a construction ministry that has built over 100 churches, schools, orphanages and other projects all over the world and an in-depth prison ministry that reaches out, touches and helps the men and women the rest of society fears the most. They also teach respect for all human life and the Biblical sanctity of marriage as an institution between one man and one woman.

More intolerance displayed by the very groups that demand tolerance...

"ACLU, Lambda Legal and other anti-marriage groups have filed three lawsuits asking the California Supreme Court to strike down the newly passed Marriage Amendment as unconstitutional...

The people of California clearly chose to support the marriage amendment - despite the overwhelming pressure from liberal groups, California’s own government and deep pocket donors.

Again, homosexual activists will stop at nothing to force their agenda on us! That is what the ACLU and their cronies are trying to do right now - they are asking judges to disregard the clear will of the people!"

(info from libertyaction.org)

"Is this the sort of behavior we can expect from leftists determined to push their agenda? In the video here, an unruly group of protesters opposed to Proposition 8, the ballot initiative in California approved by voters Nov. 6 that bans gay marriage, not only refuse to allow an elderly woman to speak with the media, they assault her as well. Near the end of the video, they grab her cross, throw it on the ground and stomp it.

New World Order minion and California gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger encouraged opponents of the passed proposition not to give up until the measure is overturned. It is unfortunate, obviously, but its not the end, vowed the governor during a CNN interview, because this will go back to the courts.

Is it possible Arnie approves of these sort of violent tactics in order to force gay marriage on the people of California who voted against it?"

Schwarzenegger Supports Rioters

Due the the passing of proposition 8, many Mormon churches, evangelical churches, and Catholics churches continue to be threatened.

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday expressed hope that the California Supreme Court would overturn Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage. He also predicted that the 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who have already wed would not see their marriages nullified by the initiative.

"It's unfortunate, obviously, but it's not the end," Schwarzenegger said in an interview Sunday on CNN. "I think that we will again maybe undo that, if the court is willing to do that, and then move forward from there and again lead in that area"."

I agree with Michelle Malkin's take on this, she states:
"The GOP governor of California is encouraging church-bashing protesters to continue to defy the will of the people and wreak havoc until Proposition 8, the traditional marriage ballot measure, is overturned. To the Left and to “rebranding” advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger, tolerance is a one-way street." from: http://michellemalkin.com/2008/11/09/schwarzenegger-pours-fuel-on-anti-prop-8-fire/

More Protest at the LA Temple

Gay-rights activists criticize the church for helping to collect millions to aid passage of ban on gay marriage.
By Jessica Garrison and Joanna Lin
November 7, 2008

"More than a thousand gay-rights activists gathered Thursday afternoon outside the Mormon temple in Westwood to protest the role Mormons played in passing Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California.

It was the latest in an escalating campaign directed against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its role in marshaling millions of dollars in contributions from its members for the successful campaign to take away same-sex marriage rights.

Jeff Flint, strategist for Yes on 8 stated: "I am appalled at the level of Mormon-bashing that went on during the Proposition 8 campaign and continues to this day," he said. "If this activity were directed against any other church, if someone put up a website that targeted Jews or Catholics in a similar fashion for the mere act of participating in a political campaign, it would be widely and rightfully condemned."

Members and leaders of the Catholic Church and other Christian churches were also heavily involved in the campaign to pass Proposition 8. The Knights of Columbus, which is tied to the Catholic Church, gave $1 million, and several evangelical groups gave millions more. But they have not come under the same kind of attack."

Catholic Bishop Decries Religious Bigotry Against Mormons

article from: http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/catholic-bishop-decries-religious-bigotry-against-mormons

"SACRAMENTO 7 November 2008 (This news release was issued by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento) The following statement was released today by Bishop William Weigand, head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento and former Bishop of Salt Lake City, in response to attacks on (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) for supporting California’s Proposition 8, defending the traditional definition of marriage:

“Catholics stand in solidarity with our Mormon brothers and sisters in support of traditional marriage — the union of one man and one woman — that has been the major building block of Western Civilization for millennia.

“The ProtectMarriage coalition, which led the successful campaign to pass Proposition 8, was an historic alliance of people from every faith and ethnicity. LDS were included — but so were Catholics and Jews, Evangelicals and Orthodox, African-Americans and Latinos, Asians and Anglos.

“Bigoted attacks on Mormons for the part they played in our coalition are shameful and ignore the reality that Mormon voters were only a small part of the groundswell that supported Proposition 8.

“As the former bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, I can attest to the fact that followers of the Mormon faith are a good and generous people with a long history of commitment to family and giving to community causes.

“I personally decry the bigotry recently exhibited towards the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — coming from the opponents of Proposition 8, who ironically, have called those of us supporting traditional marriage intolerant.

“I call upon the supporters of same-sex marriage to live by their own words — and to refrain from discrimination against religion and to exercise tolerance for those who differ from them. I call upon them to accept the will of the people of California in the passage of Proposition 8".”

This was also released from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/church-issues-statement-on-proposition-8-protest

"SALT LAKE CITY 7 November 2008 The Church issued the following statement today:

It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election.

Members of the Church in California and millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States — that of free expression and voting.

While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the Church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process.

Once again, we call on those involved in the debate over same-sex marriage to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other. No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information."

Protesting and Threatening happening due to ban on gay marriage...

More than 2000 gay-rights advocates gathered outside the gates of a Mormon temple, to protest the Mormon church's role in a new statewide ban on gay marriage. Protesters blame leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for encouraging Mormons to funnel millions of dollars into television ads and mailings in favor of Proposition 8. Proposition 8 was sponsored by a coalition of religious and social conservative groups.

Also in San Francisco, 2,000 supporters of same-sex marriage gathered at San Francisco's City Hall to protest following the victory of Proposition 8. Same sex couples and their supporters held a candlelit vigil on the steps of City Hall to commemorate the spot where the fight for their right to marry started four years ago when San Francisco first granted marriage licenses to same sex couple.

Proposition 8 passed Tuesday. It amends the California Constitution to define marriage as a heterosexual act and overrides a state Supreme Court ruling that allowed same-sex couples the right to wed. A 2003 California law already gives gays registered as domestic partners nearly all the state rights and responsibilities of married couples when it comes to such things as taxes, estate planning and medical decisions. This law is still in effect.

"Burn their f---ing churches to the ground, and then tax the charred timbers," wrote "World O Jeff" on the JoeMyGod blogspot.

On a blog website, "Tread" wrote, "I hope the No on 8 people have a long list and long knives."

Another contributor to the JoeMyGod website said, "While financially I supported the Vote No, and was vocal to everyone and anyone who would listen, I have never considered being a violent radical extremist for our equal rights. But now I think maybe I should consider becoming one. Perhaps that is the only thing that will affect the change we so desperately need and deserve."

A contributor identifying himself as "Joe" said, "I swear, I'd murder people with my bare hands this morning."

On the "Queerty" website, "Stenar" asked, "Can someone in CA please go burn down the Mormon temples there, PLEASE. I mean seriously. DO IT."

"I'm going to give them something to be f---ing scared of. … I'm a radical who is now on a mission to make them all pay for what they've done," wrote "Jonathan."

On yet another site, "Americablog," "scottinsf" wrote, "Trust me. I've got a big list of names of mormons and catholics that were big supporters of Prop 8. … As far as mormons and catholics … I warn them to watch their backs."

"I hope they all rot in hell, those servants of a lying, corrupt devil! BAN RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISM," wrote Angelo.

One contributor went so far as to threaten to take out his frustrations on his own family.

"You want me to come back to Idaho for Christmas? Oh wait, my partner and I can't share the same bed? We can't show any affection or any outward sign of our love for each other? Well sorry family ... no Uncle Adam and all his expensive gifts and delicious cooking for you. Your childrens' presents will now be donations in their name to the equal rights organization of my choosing. As will their and your birthday presents, wedding presents, graduation presents, and everything else I give going forward."

The writer continued, "Remember, I'm angry. And I'm strong from my years at the gym and really am ready to take my frustration out on someone or something."

"Hope the gay waiters at their hotel p---ed in all the drinks they served these cretins," "Jake" wrote about protectors of traditional marriage.

"If you're planning a heterosexual wedding in California … be prepared for picketers. Designate someone to watch the parking lot … You're going to have lots of unexpected expenses. Add $500 to your budget for security. … Be prepared for the flowers not lasting to the reception or the tuxedos showing up two sizes too small or the music at the reception being a way too loud or the cake tasting a little funny," stated another threat. "Be afraid. Be very afraid. We are everywhere."
