Media blubbers over Obama

"Here's a small sampling of the churlishness in just The New York Times: -- The American public is bemused by the tasteless show-biz extravaganza surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration today. -- There is something to be said for some showiness in an inauguration. But one felt discomfited all the same. -- This is an inauguration, not a coronation. -- Is there a parallel between Mrs. Obama's jewel-toned outfit and somebody else's glass slippers? Why limousines and not shank's mare? -- It is still unclear whether we are supposed to shout 'Whoopee!' or 'Shame!' about the new elegance the Obamas are bringing to Washington. they're not popular, that the whole family will now go into retreat.

Obama's Victory is:

"A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless, but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups.

A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising [sic] over reality.


A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros and Sarandon.


Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group-think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion.


Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media have to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are extremely liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition.


A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity.


A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.


Congratulations, America!"

Obama speech analyzed....

I had to post this analysis of President Obama Inauguration Speech from The Patriot Post - it is very insightful...

"As a public service, we analyzed Obama's speech with The Patriot's proprietary Leftspeak decoder software, using it to translate his speech into Rightspeak so that our fellow Americans might more fully understand what he was saying. I selected a few excerpts from our analysis for your consideration.

BHO: "My fellow citizens," Apostles and disciples of hope and change,

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord." Disagree with me and you must be racist or ignorant, or both.

"Our Founding Fathers ... drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man ... and we will not give them up for expedience's sake." But we will overwrite them with judicial diktats until my rule is the rule of law.

"What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them -- that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply." Our founders are dead and so is their vision for our nation.

"In the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things." Disagree with me and you are in violation of Scripture.

"Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill ... but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control." We must not only grow the government, but also ensure that it regulates every aspect of the economy.

"The nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous." Darwin had it right, except in regard to human nature and free market capitalism.

"A new era of responsibility..." An era in which the fiscally responsible will bear an ever-greater tax burden for those of us who are not...

"Less measurable, but no less profound, is a sapping of confidence across our land; a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, that the next generation must lower its sights." The crisis of confidence and propagation of fear was the staple of my campaign rhetoric, and it was largely responsible for my election.

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." I will remake America into Amerika.

"We will restore science to its rightful place." Global warming hysteria is a great catalyst for expanding government control.

"The world has changed, and we must change with it." Out with national sovereignty and in with the New World Order...

"Power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please." Appeasement works...

"Our security emanates from the justness of our cause; the force of our example; the tempering qualities of humility and restraint." Appeasement really works...

"To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect." To the Islamic terrorists, we seek to appease you.

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." Except for my mentors Frank Marshall Davis, Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, and my colleagues in the Democrat Party, the Socialist New Party, the ACORN crowd, Rod Blagojevich, Richard Daley, Saul Alinsky, Father Michael Pfleger, Khalid al-Mansour, Kwame Kilpatrick, Louis Farrakhan, Rashid Khalidi and Raila Odinga. You guys can just keep up the good work.

"This is the source of our confidence: the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny." I am calling on you to follow me.

Obama ended his speech with the last of several references to our Founders, calling on Americans to remember the words "the father of our nation" delivered to troops: "Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

Of course, those words were written by Thomas Paine on 23 December 1776 in his work, "The American Crisis," which, indeed, George Washington ordered read to his Patriot countrymen on the eve of the Battle of Trenton.

Paine's pamphlet, which begins famously, "These are the times that try men's souls..." was about the animating contest for freedom and liberty from government oppression.

However, Obama's entire treatise on the role of government, "a new declaration of independence ... a new foundation for growth ... a watchful eye ... a new era of responsibility ... remaking America," contradicts everything that Patriots have died for since our Declaration of Independence.

Our Founders outlined their just cause for revolution with these words: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government."

During the next four years, every thoughtful American will come to learn that Barack Hussein Obama is no friend of freedom and liberty; that his "vision for America" is the antithesis of that held by our Founders.

George Washington admonished future generations to "Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism."

Indeed.

I also had to add this... not that it is a surprise that the Left acts so Childish. It doesn't matter if you liked President Bush or not, this behavior is downright shameful.
"Let the record show that as our nation's forty-third President made his way to the inaugural podium on Tuesday, he was greeted by the boos and chants of an utterly vulgar collection of Obama supporters and Democrat VIPs: "Na Na Na Na, Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye." Alas, a better successor than Barack Obama would have departed from his scripted inaugural address to condemn this unprecedented show of shoddy behavior. Alas."

Stocks tumble on Inauguration Day

Okay, now that Obama's President, where is the hope and change? The market is definitely not seeing hope yet & the change is going in the wrong direction...
"The dawn of the Obama presidency could not shake the stock market from its dejection over the rapidly deteriorating state of the banking industry.

Financial stocks, many of them falling by double digit percentages, led a huge drop on Wall Street Tuesday that left the major indexes down more than 4 percent and the Dow Jones industrials down 332 points. Although traders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange paused to watch the inauguration ceremony and Obama's remarks, the transition of power didn't erase investors' intensifying concerns about struggling banks and their impact on the overall economy. ....

"The reason we're having a panic drop is the fact that Europe is catching our cold, and we could have deeper and deeper problems that could require more and more money. And eventually the government is going to have to stop spending," said Keith Springer, president of Capital Financial Advisory Services. "It's a pretty dangerous situation to be in."

...The Dow Jones industrial average fell 332.13, or 4.01 percent, to 7,949.09, its lowest close since Nov. 20, when the blue chips ended at 7,552.29 -- their lowest point in more than five years. It was also the blue chips' biggest drop since Dec. 1.

During much of Obama's address, the average was down about 150 points. Traders hadn't appeared so focused on TV screens since Sept. 29, when the House initially voted against the banking bailout package and the Dow tumbled 777 points.

The Dow's showing was its worst ever for an Inauguration Day.

Broader stock indicators also fell sharply Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 44.90, or 5.28 percent, to 805.22, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 88.47, or 5.78 percent, to 1,440.86.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 32.80, or 7.03 percent, to 433.65.

Losing issues outnumbered gainers by about 9 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 6.23 billion shares compared with 5.92 billion shares traded Friday....."

No, I didn't watch the inauguration, as there was many more pleasing things that I choose to do today instead. & Yes, I'm not a big fan of Obama. (If you'd like to know why - read the posts on this blog for the many, many reasons why.) However, I do pray for him as he is our new President (like it or not). I do not pray for him to be successful in continuing to promote evil (promoting the abortion industry, promoting spreading the wealth -aka socialism, overturning the constitution, etc.); but rather I pray for the blessings of a loving Father in Heaven to be upon him and his administration. I pray for President Obama to have humility, that he will be able to receive enlightenment, insights, and judgment from heaven as he faces issues that will ultimately determine the destiny of this nation. I pray that he will look to God for answers, for inspiration, and for guidance in solving the problems that face our nation; and that the change he calls for will not veer us from America's founding ideals. This is one of the most troubling times for anyone to become the President as the nation is in economic turmoil and the market continues to plummet and terrorists seek our demise. So Yes, I will continue to resist and oppose Barack Obama's liberal and socialistic agenda, but to not pray for him and our Nation in these troubling times would be unchristian and unpatriotic.

Here's a list of hopes for President Obama that I also will pray for:
We hope that he will take seriously his pledge to honor the Constitution and not be tempted to look at is as an elastic document that changes to mean whatever is currently in philosophic fashion.

We hope that he will be able to lead the way to an economic recovery that does not create a larger government, but motivates and fires the competence and vision of individual Americans, incentivizes business, and maintains our capitalist system.

We hope that though he has promised special interest groups to roll back abortion restrictions with the Freedom of Choice Act, that he will respect the life of the unborn.

We hope that he will foster a culture of intact families where children have the best possible chance to grow up with their own mother and father.

We hope that he will respect parents' rights to direct the upbringing of their children.

We look to him to uphold the free exercise clause of the Constitution and not approve laws which put people or churches in the position of violating their conscience or restricting religious freedom.

At least Obama's using the Bible for the inauguration.


This article is very interesting - I enjoyed looking at where the Presidents had their Bibles opened to when they were inaugurated.

I agree with my sister-in-law who told me, "All I could think was, at least Obama's using the Bible!"
"President-elect Barack Obama will use the same Bible at his inauguration that Abraham Lincoln used in 1861 when he was sworn in. See which Bibles and verses other U.S. presidents chose."

President-elect Obama's inauguration will be the costliest in history


"It is believed President-elect Obama's inauguration will be the costliest in history — around $50 million — despite the recession. President Bush has declared a state of emergency to free up federal funds to help the district cope with the soaring cost of the event.

There has been little outcry over the hefty price tag so far — unlike four years ago when the cost of President Bush's second inauguration provoked liberal outrage. Salon.com described the event, in an piece by Eric Boehlert on Jan. 20, 2005, as "Bush's overblown celebration," the think tank Center for American Progress called it "lifestyles of the rich and heartless," and an article in the London Guardian by Paul Harri on January 9, 2005, said it was "an unashamed celebration of red America's victory over blue America. ...

Inaugural planners are trying to create the most environmentally-friendly event to date. The Hill newspaper reports the committee plans to deploy 6,000 volunteers to pick up recycling along the parade route. The oath of office will be recited on a recycled carpet.

And there are even plans to recycle the manure from horses walking in the parade. But Brian Darling of the conservative Heritage Foundation says, "you're going to have people flying in on their private jets, limousines and SUVs cruising around Washington... the recycled carpet and all of that probably makes everybody feel better and they can feel like they have a green inaugural ceremony, but in reality it's not."

AP writer Will Lester calculated the impact that kind of money would have on armoring Humvees in Iraq, helping victims of the tsunami, or paying down the deficit. Lester thought the party should be cancelled: “The questions have come from Bush supporters and opponents: Do we need to spend this money on what seems so extravagant?

Fast forward to 2009. The nation is still at war (two wars, in fact), and now also faces the prospect of a severe recession and federal budget deficits topping $1 trillion as far as the eye can see. With Barack Obama’s inauguration estimated to cost $45 million (not counting the millions more that government will have to pay for security), is the Associated Press once again tsk-tsking the high dollar cost?

Nope. “For inaugural balls, go for glitz, forget economy,” a Tuesday AP headline advised. The article by reporter Laurie Kellman argued for extravagance....

"Just because the economy is in a downturn, it doesn't mean that style is going to be in a downturn," agreed Ken Downing, fashion director for Neiman Marcus.

And if anyone does raise an eyebrow at those sequins, remind them that optimism is good for times like these. "Just say you're doing it to help the economy," chuckled good manners guru Letitia Baldridge. .....

To get a real feel for the contrast, here’s an excerpt of Lester’s January 13, 2005 piece (as recounted in the MRC’s CyberAlert), starting with a lede designed to rain all over Bush’s parade and including the suggestion from two liberal Democrats that Bush eat cold chicken salad and pound cake instead:

President Bush’s second inauguration will cost tens of millions of dollars — $40 million alone in private donations for the balls, parade and other invitation-only parties. With that kind of money, what could you buy?

■ 200 armored Humvees with the best armor for troops in Iraq.

■ Vaccinations and preventive health care for 22 million children in regions devastated by the tsunami.

■ A down payment on the nation’s deficit, which hit a record-breaking $412 billion last year....

...."As a country, we face huge deficits. We face a declining economy. We have service people dying. We face responsibilities to help those suffering from the...devastation of the tsunamis," he wrote on his blog, a Web journal.

Cuban challenged Bush to set an example: "Start by canceling your inauguration parties and festivities."

Obviously, that’s not the media’s message to Barack Obama this year. And no one in the press is going to argue that, with the nation at war, the new President should be satisfied with cold chicken salad and pound cake."
