Merry Christmas to All!

is for Christ who was born on this day,
and placed in a manger to sleep in the hay.
for the Heavenly Host that did sing,
to the glory of God, and the Babe who is king.
He's Risen, that we might be free,
for from manger to cross was his destiny.
for the Infinite, All Powerful One,
who so loved the world that He sent us His son.
for the Shepherds that tended their flocks there that night
most blessed of men to behold such a sight.
for the Twinkle of that star shining bright,
to proclaim the Lord's birth, and to guide by it's light.
is for Mercy for those here on earth, this is God's promise,
fulfilled by Christ's birth.
for Almighty, omnipotent Child,
with power unrestrained, yet ever so mild.
for our Savior, our Lord and our King,
who's birth, life and death, our salvation did bring.

At this Holiday Season we remember and honor those
who are no longer with us and cherish those who are.

May the Good Lord fulfill you
with His promises and bestow on you His many blessings.

Gays furious about Rick Warren giving invocation at Obama's inauguration

(photo from Causecast)

Obama backers slam his pick of Rick Warren -

"Barack Obama 's choice of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his presidential inauguration already has angered the left before the megachurch pastor's evangelical critics have had a chance to respond.

Immediately after release of the inaugural program today, Joe Solmonese, president of the "gay" rights group Human Rights Campaign, fired off a letter to Obama calling the president-elects choice "a genuine blow to LGBT Americans" – lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders, reports David Brody of CBN News.

People For the American Way also issued a quick statement, calling the pick "a grave disappointment."

and Right Wing News has collected some reactions from the gay community:

Daily Kos:
What a spit in the eye to the GBLT community in particular, and to anyone who supports equality, dignity and justice under the law.
Feministing:
So many pro-choicers, gay activists, and progressive Christians worked their asses off to elect Obama, which makes Obama's decision to give Warren a platform at the inauguration a real f*ck-you.
Firedoglake:
President-elect Obama chose eliminationist hate preacher Rick Warren to give the invocation at Obama's Inaguration. With this choice, Obama sends three destructive messages. Number one: In Obama's America, equal rights and reproductive freedom aren't for everyone. Number two: President-elect Obama likes sharing the national stage with hate. Number three: While Obama enjoys his equality before the law, LGBT Americans can go to Hell. Literally. Gee. Is this change we can believe in?
Andrew Sullivan:
Shrewd politics, but if anyone is under any illusion that Obama is interested in advancing gay equality, they should probably sober up now. He won't be as bad as the Clintons (who, among leading Democrats, could?), but pandering to Christianists at his inauguration is a depressing omen.

and Right Voices also has collected some more reactions:

Rick Warren to give inaugural invocation — (CNN) — President-elect Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony will feature big names like minister Rick Warren and legendary singer Aretha Franklin, the Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced Wednesday.

Obama picks homophobe pro-’Prop 8′ evangelical preacher to give the invocation at inaugural — 5:22PM UPDATE: Warren compared abortion to the “Jewish Holocaust,” and said that making abortion “rare” wasn’t enough, he’s for outlawing abortion, period. So that would make pro-choice people …

Gay activists furious with Obama — Barack Obama’s choice of a prominent evangelical minister to perform the invocation at his inauguration is a conciliatory gesture toward social conservatives who opposed him in November, but it is drawing fierce challenges from a gay rights movement that …

Ugh — Rick Warren will give the invocation at Obama’s inauguration. Warren is a man who believes my marriage removes his freedom of speech and cannot say that authorizing torture is a moral failing. Shrewd politics, but if anyone is under any illusion that Obama is interested in advancing gay equality …

Pro-Life Rick Warren to Give Invocation at Obama Inauguration — Pro-life pastor Rick Warren will give the invocation at President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. It makes a whole lot of sense. Even though Warren and Obama disagree on the life issue, they do see eye to eye on many social justice issues.

Not the Change they anticipated - so sad :(

California Attorney General changes his mind & urges court to overturn Prop 8

California Attorney General Asks State Supreme Court to Void Gay Marriage Ban
"In a dramatic reversal, Brown filed a legal brief saying the measure that amended the California Constitution to limit marriage to a man and a woman is itself unconstitutional because it deprives a minority group of a fundamental right. Earlier, Brown had said he would defend the ballot measure against legal challenges from gay marriage supporters. ....

Shannon Minter, legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, called the attorney general's change of strategy "a major development."

"The fact that after looking at this he shifted his position and is really bucking convention by not defending Prop. 8 signals very clearly that this proposition can not be defended," Minter said.

The sponsors of Proposition 8 on Friday revealed for the first time that they would fight to undo the marriages of the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who exchanged vows before voters banned gay marriage at the ballot box last month.

The Yes on 8 campaign filed a brief telling the court that because the new law holds that only marriages between a man and a woman are recognized or valid in California, the state can no longer recognize the existing same-sex unions." ....
Marriage defined as a union between one man and one women, "deprives a minority group of a fundamental right".... hmm if you want to change the meaning of marriage for homosexuals because it "deprives" them of a "fundamental right" - then you will have to change it for ALL groups. Where do you draw the line??

More updates about the Abortion Mill (aka Planned Parenthood)

more on info on regulations that protect doctors from forced abortions...
"The president of Planned Parenthood is upset that the Bush administration has given final approval to regulations that help doctors and medical centers pressured to do abortions or refer for them. Cecile Richards appears to admit in an email to financial backers that she wouldn’t hire pro-life staff at her centers.

Richards claimed stopping forced abortions is “limiting the rights of patients to receive complete and accurate reproductive health information when they visit a federally funded health care provider." ...

Richards is also upset that facilities that receive federal funding -- including her Planned Parenthood abortion business -- “will have to certify that they will not refuse to hire nurses and other providers who object to abortion.”

Though Planned Parenthood supposedly maintains a “pro-choice” position on abortion, Richards makes clear her unwillingness to hire pro-life doctors, nurses and medical staff.

“Frankly, I'm livid,” Richards tells supporters in a more candid email confession. “I believe that tricking women when they are most vulnerable is wrong — and the federal government shouldn't pay people to do it.” ...

...and Planned Parenthood doesn't try to trick women when they are most vulnerable??? -their website is full of lies and half truths aimed to trick women when they are vulnerable and need help (see: Planned Parenthood's Many Lies); and that is wrong. What hypocrites.

And Planned Parenthood thinks helping the homeless means offering them abortion and birth control. Homeless women need to be treated as a whole person - not just as a sexual object.
"Thousands of Americans face the challenge of homelessness every day and, while most of them struggle with finding food, shelter or work, Planned Parenthood believes they need something else. The local affiliate of the nation’s largest abortion business in Santa Barbara, California is offering the homeless birth control and abortion. ...

...But Wendy Wright, the president of Concerned Women for America, tells LifeNews.com that Planned Parenthood is not providing the kind of basic health care homeless women really need.

“Homeless women have a variety of health needs, but Planned Parenthood does not provide the range of medical care that these women need,” she said. “Women who go through Planned Parenthood’s ‘services’ at this shelter won’t receive the basic care that customary medical clinics (including free clinics) provide.”

“How much better it would be for these women to engage medical personnel who treat the whole woman, instead of those who treat women as sexual objects,” she said."

New York's New Taxes....

Glad I'm not living in the big apple -

"Gov. Paterson's proposed $121 billion budget hits New Yorkers in their iPods - and nickels-and-dimes them in lots of other places, too. ... ... "We're going to have to take some extreme measures," Paterson said Tuesday after unveiling the slash-and-burn budget.

The proposal, which needs legislative approval, did not include broad-based income tax increases, but relied on smaller ones to raise $4.1 billion from cash-strapped New Yorkers.

Movie tickets, taxi rides, soda, beer, wine, cigars and massages would be taxed under Paterson's proposal. It also extends sales taxes to cable and satellite TV services and removes the tax exemption for clothes costing less than $110.

"The governor is nickel-and-diming working class families," said Ron Deutsch, executive director of New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness, an advocacy group.

State Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long warned that reinstating the sales tax on clothing and shoes will drive people to New Jersey, where they will also gas up their cars and pick up their wine, spirits and soda because the prices are less due to lower taxes. "You're sending notice to the people of New York that we really don't want you here," Long said. "The governor proposed flat spending, but why not actually cut the budget before raising taxes and fees?"

Bailouts for Wall Street, Automakers, and now Ethanol producers...

Now Ethanol Wants a Bailout (from Wall Street Journal)
"The Renewable Fuels Association, a trade group for the U.S. ethanol industry, has spoken with staff members from Capitol Hill and President-elect Barack Obama’s team and “provided them with some ideas on how to craft the language of” an economic recovery package, said Matt Hartwig, a spokesman for the RFA.

Hartwig said RFA has suggested a number of steps including setting up a $1 billion short-term credit facility so ethanol producers could finance current operations; a $50 billion federal loan guarantee program to finance investment in new renewable fuel production capacity and supporting infrastructure; and a requirement that any auto maker receiving federal aid only produce new vehicles that can run on any blend up to 85% ethanol, beginning with the 2010 model season".”

Ethanol is not the answer

Ethanol won't solve energy problems from USA today

Ethanol is far from a cure-all for the nation's energy problems. It's not as environmentally friendly as some supporters claim and would supply only 12% of U.S. motoring fuel — even if every acre of corn were used. ...

...As far as alternative fuels are concerned, biodiesel from soybeans is the better choice compared with corn-produced ethanol, University of Minnesota researchers concluded in an analysis Monday.

But "neither can replace much petroleum without impacting food supplies," the researchers concluded in the paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The paper said development of non-food materials such as switchgrass, prairie grasses and woody plants to produce cellulosic ethanol would be a major improvement with greater energy output and lower environmental impacts.

But creation of cellulosic ethanol remains in the laboratory research stage. And even non-food sources of ethanol would fall far short of replacing gasoline, most researchers agree.

Biofuels such as ethanol are "not a practical long-term solution," and their widespread use — even from non-food crop sources — could have a "devastating" impact on agriculture, two researchers at the Magleve Research Center of the Polytechnic University of New York, argued recently. ...

Stop the Bailout for Abortion Mills -(aka Planned Parenthood)

"Abortion groups have submitted their 50 page proposal to the Obama-Biden transition team. At the top of the list? More taxpayer dollars for abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood. How much more? Over 1.5 billion dollars more!

The Abortion Bailout Package:
  • $1 BILLION dollars in taxpayer funding for International Abortion Groups
  • $700 million in taxpayer funding for “Title X” Health Clinics (aka your local Planned Parenthood affiliate)
  • $65 million for the UNFPA, an international aid organization connected to coercive abortion as part of China’s coercive one-child policy
  • Repeal the Hyde Amendment – Vastly expanding federal taxpayer funding for abortions
  • Include Abortion coverage in any taxpayer-subsidized national health care program
  • Expand taxpayer-funded abortions on military bases
  • Expand taxpayer-funded abortions through the Peace Corps program
  • Expand taxpayer-funded abortions for federal prisoners"

Obama's Citizenship???

"America Online is conducting a new poll asking readers whether they believe there is any merit to the controversy surrounding Barack Obama's citizenship

– and most respondents say "yes"." ......

"Where's the proof Barack Obama was born in the U.S. or that he fulfills the "natural-born American" clause in the Constitution? If you still want to see it, join more than 185,000 others and sign up now!"

-information from World Net Daily

"This could be put to rest with a $10 copy from the government, and yet Obama has spent somewhere between $500,000 and $800,000 to block this. Why does he waste taxpayers money on this foolishness? " -comment posted on poll that I agree with. If he is a natural born citizen - then why doesn't he produce it freely and willingly? Why all this trouble?

Media gushes over 'Sweet' Caroline

"Nightline" anchor Cynthia McFadden and ABC reporter John Donvan on Monday gushed over the possibility that Caroline Kennedy could replace Hillary Clinton as the senator from New York. ...

...Donvan repeatedly mentioned that Caroline Kennedy wouldn't have much experience for such a post. But, he didn't seem bothered at all by this, at one point stating, "All she will have at first is that name. But, at least she has kept it the way it was remembered, as part of a story that so many wanted to believe in." Contrast this with the coverage vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin received over a perceived lack of experience. Certainly, the media were not as forgiving for a non-Kennedy such as the governor of Alaska." ...

Transcript below of Nightline 11:58 PM EST - Monday, December 15, 2008
11:35pm tease

CYNTHIA MCFADDEN: Plus, Senator Kennedy? Caroline, that is. President John F. Kennedy's sole surviving child wants Hillary Clinton's New York Senate seat. So, is another chapter in the Camelot story about to be written?

11:58pm

MCFADDEN: We turn now to politics and certainly one of the most famous names of the past century, Kennedy. But this Kennedy, Caroline, who told New York Governor David Paterson today that she is indeed interested in being appointed to Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, is in many ways a political newcomer. The 51-year-old daughter of President John F. Kennedy has, until recently, shunned the spotlight. She does has a law degree and has written several books, though always avoiding politics. But no longer, as John Donvan reports.

JOHN KENNEDY: We are not here to curse the darkness. We are here to light a candle.

ROBERT KENNEDY: -the same confidence, the same support you gave so generously to the efforts of President Kennedy and his administration.

TED KENNEDY: The work goes on. The cause endures. The hope still lives and the dream shall never die.

ANNOUNCER: Please welcome Caroline Kennedy to the podium!

DONVAN: Consider what it would mean if this woman with America's most political name, who in her 51 years has never done politics, were now to be named to the U.S. Senate. She would be the fourth Kennedy to be called senator. Surely a new dynastic record. And her return to Washington would close a circle after nearly half a century. For this is where, when her dad was the president, we first came to know the little girl, riding his shoulders, saddled up on ponies. And then to the sound of different hoof beats in the pictures of a funeral, the little round face, held forever this the light of that day and in our collective memories. Never did politics, never in any big way, until in a very big way she stepped forward last winter and endorsed Barack Obama for president.

CAROLINE KENNEDY: I've been deeply moved by the people who told me growing up all my life that they wished that they could feel the same sense of hope and inspiration that Americans felt when my father was president.

DONVAN: It was the most powerful compliment she could possibly pay.

CAROLINE KENNEDY: Fortunately, there is one candidate who offers that same sense of hope and inspiration, and that candidate is Barack Obama.

DONVAN: And the surprise was not just that this was hurting Hillary Clinton, the same Clinton whose Senate seat she may be getting. What was surprising is that she decided to be so public at all. Because Caroline Kennedy, who was one of the world's most photographed kids until she was six years old, was afterwards whisked by her mom out of Washington and into a life out of public view to the degree that was possible. And, so, the glimpses were relatively few during the near half century that intervened, time spent in high-rise apartments and private schools and the Ivy League.

[Clip of "Sweet Caroline" plays]

DONVAN: Oh and the song, Neil Diamond says he composed sweet Caroline after seeing a photo of her sometime in the '60's. By the '90's, she was married to Edwin Schlossberg a designer. And while there was more grief, the deaths of both her mother and her brother, there was never show boating or scandal. Other Kennedys of her generation ran afoul of the law, but Caroline Kennedy raised her kids and did work for charity and did the family name proud. The name-

TED KENNEDY: And the dream lives on.

DONVAN: Is it all she has going for her now that she says she wants in the game, the same game that her uncle Ted Kennedy played so well? It was she who embraced him last summer, possibly his last appearance at a Democratic convention due to health problems. But, consider this, Ted Kennedy, same name, but it took him years to figure out how to become the lion of the Senate, with multiple missteps along the way, not always doing the name proud. She, if she gets the post, will be on the job training from day one. All she will have at first is that name. But, at least she has kept it the way it was remembered, as part of a story that so many wanted to believe in. I'm John Donvan for "Nightline" in Washington.

MCFADDEN: Governor Paterson has said he will not make the appointment until Senator Clinton is confirmed as secretary of state, but that he may announce the decision before that.

Uh-oh: Gas prices on the rise...
"After eighty-six consecutive daily declines, the average price of gas nationwide has now increased for the past two days. Have gas prices bottomed? ...On Friday, Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy in Minneapolis, warned that gas prices may be bottoming out. ...

..."Enjoy the gas prices while they're here," he said.

Since July, the price of gasoline has fallen along with the price of crude oil, gas's main ingredient. Crude has fallen more than $100 a barrel since July as investors worried that the U.S. economy was consuming less fuel.

However the decline in the price of crude may be setting us up for a gas price "super spike" in two to four years, said Toews." ...

In Europe, conserving gas is a matter of habit

Already, US automakers are slashing production of SUVs in favor of more popular hybrids and compact cars. With the US auto industry on the brink of collapse, the Bush administration is trying to accelerate a $25 billion loan program to produce fuel-efficient vehicles. And while President-elect Barack Obama prepares an ambitious green agenda, local politicians, from Massachusetts to Oregon, are already calling for increases to gas taxes to fill civic coffers bled dry by an economic downturn.

In Europe, gas prices have been shooting up for a decade, long before they did in the United States, and peaked at $10.64 a gallon this summer as American drivers were gagging at $4.50 a gallon. In an effort to reduce fuel consumption, European governments steadily raised fuel taxes over the 1990s - between 40 and 50 percent of the retail price of gas. That action forced motorists to scale back their driving habits and forced manufacturers to meet the demand for more fuel-efficient cars.

The results are clear: Gasoline consumption on the continent dropped from 3.21 million barrels a day in 1992 to 2.51 million barrels a day last year, according to David Martin, an oil market analyst at the International Energy Agency in Paris". ...

ABC Hails Obama's 'Green Team,' Slams Bush's Climate 'Censorship'
"Less than a week after a new report from the ranking Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee showcased hundreds of scientists who disagree with the United Nations' alarmist take on global climate change, ABC's World News on Sunday night featured a report devoted solely to cheering Barack Obama's new "green team" -- the promotional term was embraced by ABC News -- and laying the groundwork for radical action on global warming after what ABC termed "censorship" and "stonewalling" by the Bush administration.

Senate committee report: epw.senate.gov

The story by ABC's Bill Blakemore offered a manipulative presentation, asserting that "wildfires, droughts and downpours [are] increasing exactly as predicted for global warming" -- but not mentioning that global temperatures are actually lower now than in 1998 -- and scolding how the Bush White House allowed "political assistants in their 20s to rewrite the conclusions of leading climate scientists" -- as if the liberal political opinions of scientists could not be second-guessed." ..

CBS and ABC Tout Shoe-Thrower as 'Celebrity'and 'Folk Hero'
"Usually rude protesters who disrupt events by throwing objects at state leaders don't earn media celebrations, but instead of being embarrassed by their Iraqi media colleague who, as he spewed venomous hatreds, dangerously threw his shoes at President Bush on Sunday in Baghdad, ABC and CBS on Monday night championed his popularity amongst Iraqis. ABC put "Folk Hero?" on screen as fill-in anchor Elizabeth Vargas trumpeted how Muntathar al-Zaidi has "become an instant celebrity to many of his countrymen" while CBS anchor Katie Couric hailed how "many Iraqis are calling him a hero" before reporter Elizabeth Palmer snidely concluded: "Al-Zaidi should do jail time, said the Iraqi bloggers, because he missed."

From London, ABC's Jim Sciutto maintained: "Shoes have become a new symbol of anti-Americanism in the Arab world. And the Iraqi reporter who threw them, Muntathar al-Zaidi, a folk hero." Sciutto touted how "more than 100 lawyers volunteered to defend him. It was a heroic way to say goodbye to Bush, said one Iraqi." Though Sciutto at least noted how "some Iraqis are embarrassed," he countered: "Still, in news coverage, on new fan Web sites, in Arabic text messages, the overwhelming sentiment: giddy satisfaction."

CBS Palmer, also from afar in London, asserted "al-Zaidi's become an instant hero. Today, thousands demonstrated for his release"." ...

Planned Parenthood protecting child rapist ... again

"Another incident has surfaced involving an underage girl receiving an abortion and no attention being paid to the child molester who impregnated her.

The incident happened at a Planned Parenthood clinic in the nation's capitol. Information on the incident comes from American Life League's Katy Walker.

"Counselors in Washington, DC, encountered a 13-year-old girl going into a Planned Parenthood in the downtown DC area [who] was accompanied by her mother and her aunt," Walker explains. According to the pro-life activist, following the abortion the aunt shared some information with sidewalk counselors outside the clinic.

"[S]he informs them that this little girl has been raped by the mother's boyfriend, and the mother wants to keep the boyfriend," says Walker."

excerpts from: OneNewsNow

And another sting caught on tape in three weeks... (see video below)
The first case showed a Charlotte, North Carolina Planned Parenthood covering up an incident of statutory rape.

A second tape showed a staffer named Diana telling Lila Rose, a UCLA student who posed as a 13-year-old girl who had sexual relations with a man more than twice her age, that she didn't want to know any more about the incident.

This third, newly-released footage from this past summer shows Rose, who again claims she is an underage girl who had sex with an older man, hearing from employees about her sexual abuse.

This time, two Planned Parenthood employees say they "don't care" about the age difference between a 31-year-old man and the 13-year-old girl he was reported to have impregnated. ...

...Rose tells LifeNews.com she additional videotape is very concerning because is shows an emerging pattern of abuse, as more abortion center counselors evade their legal responsibility to report the statutory rape of young girls.

She says the lack of reporting and Planned Parenthood staffers looking the other way makes it so young girls remain trapped in cycles of sexual abuse.
Although the Bloomington abortion center fired its nurse and Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter has launched an investigation, Rose said this is not an isolated incident.

"We have more videos documenting this pattern of law-breaking within Planned Parenthood. There are actual cases all across the country where their failure to follow state statutes has allowed predators to continue their sexual abuse of young girls," she told LifeNews.com." ...

Wizbang points out:

"The advice given is strikingly similar as well. It's becoming a bit of a stretch to believe that it's just one employee when these videos are so similar, isn't it? Does Planned Parenthood perhaps coach their staffers on what to say? Not only do the two employees cover up for the felony of a 31-year-old having sex with a 13-year-old, they give helpful advice on how to cross state lines to avoid Indiana's parental notification law. What kind of depraved people would do something like that?? How is it that Planned Parenthood can have what they believe to be a 13-year-old tell them they've been impregnated by a 31-year-old and not feel they need to take legal action? Aside from the clear fact that they're breaking the law, do these people have no morals, no ethics?

What makes all of this even worse is that Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that receives around $300 million in taxpayer subsidies a year. We're funding this kind of despicable behavior, and we don't even have a choice in the matter. The taxpayer funding of Plannped Parenthood needs to stop immediately, and a serious investigation of the organization needs to take place. How many of these heinous videos does Lila Rose need to publish showing Planned Parenthood practicing the exploitation of minors before the public sits up and takes notice? Yes, yes, the feminist lobby will screech with outrage, but that doesn't make them right nor does it excuse this behavior.

Abortion may be a debatable issue, but the exploitation of children, which Planned Parenthood seems to be frequently engaging in, is not."

Pro-Abortion Groups Memo to Obama

Pro-Abortion Groups Issue 55-Page Marching Orders for Barack Obama Administration
"A coalition of dozens of pro-abortion groups have issued a 55-page memorandum and the web site for the Barack Obama transition team posted it online. The new memo from groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL gives Obama his marching orders for the next four years.

The memo sets forth the kind of decisions Obama should make when it comes to topics like abortion, abortion funding and abstinence education.

The pro-abortion directive calls on President Obama to take the lead in calling for Congress to pass the radical Freedom of Choice Act and to sign it into law once it arrives at his desk.

"We urge the President to signal public support for FOCA and call on Congress to pass this important legislation," the memo says.

The legislation would make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy the national law and overturn hundreds of pro-life laws from partial-birth abortion bans to parental involvement laws in all 50 states.

Douglas Johnson, the legislative director for National Right to Life, said the abortion lobby laid out its Christmas wish list in the memo.

"This document is a road map to what we call 'the Obama abortion agenda,'" he told LifeNews.com.

"The pro-abortion lobby has presented its radical abortion agenda to the Obama Administration in a single tidy 55-page package -- even including the exact language of presidential orders that these lobbying groups want Obama to sign," he explained.

"The groups instruct the Obama Administration that it should propose repeal of the Hyde Amendment, and include an abortion mandate in a 'health care reform' bill, within the first 100 days. Longer-term goals include the so-called 'Freedom of Choice Act' and packing the federal courts with judges who are pre-committed to vote with the pro-abortion side," Johnson added.

The memo calls for Obama to strike all limits on taxpayer funded abortion in various circumstances. ...

...The abortion advocates also want Obama to restore funding to the UNFPA despite the fact that the UN organization has been found to be involved in and supportive of the one-child policy in China that includes forced abortions and sterilizations. ...

...The memo urges Obama to take other actions like putting together a federal health care plan that covers abortion, reduce abstinence education funding, and pull down information from federal web sites that talks about the medical and mental health problems women suffer after abortions.

It also calls on Obama to only appoint pro-abortion judges to the Supreme Court and lower federal courts.

The memo includes the actual text Obama should use for Executive Orders and Presidential Memorandums, legislative language changes, new regulatory initiatives, and a list of judicial vacancies." ...

and...
"The memo was supposed to stay under wraps but Obama put it on his web site because of his recent moves favoring more government transparency.

Deal Hudson, a prominent pro-life Catholic writer says the memo should make it clear to any pro-life Obama backers that neither the new president nor pro-abortion groups want any common ground to reduce abortions.

"Anyone who has bought into the myth that Obama is 'moderating' his positions should notice that the first section is entitled 'Steps for the First Hundred Days.' Groups that have spent millions supporting pro-abortion members of Congress, including Obama and Biden, aren't in the mood to wait," he writes.

"Nowhere is there any of the pre-election rhetoric about 'dialogue' or 'lowering' the number of abortions.

Hudson says the proposals would entrench the unlimited abortion policies that currently guide the U.S.

"Taken together, the proposed policies would accomplish three things: 1) treat abortion as a health care right, 2) provide funding for abortions by insurance carriers or the government, and 3) put judges and political appointees in place who will protect the abortion and government-funding from future challenges," he explained." ...

"We can’t afford to waste an hour, much less a day or a week or a month. And this business of being a lame duck President and saying, you know, ‘Adios. I’m going to the ranch. I’m just not going to do very much during this period.’ We can’t afford it....We’re in possibly, possibly the biggest crisis we’ve been in since December 7, 1941, and maybe since the time of the Civil War. So, we can’t afford to have this interregnum."

"If I had my druthers right now, we would convene a special session of Congress, amend the Constitution and move up the inauguration from Jan. 20 to Thanksgiving Day....Just get me a Supreme Court justice and a Bible, and let’s swear in Barack Obama right now — by choice — with the same haste we did — by necessity — with L.B.J. in the back of Air Force One. "
— New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, Nov. 23.

"Thanksgiving is next week, and President Bush could make it a really special holiday by resigning. Seriously....Just to be on the safe side, the Vice President ought to turn in his resignation first. (We’re desperate, but not crazy.) Then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would become President until Jan. 20. Obviously, she’d defer to her party’s incoming chief executive, and Barack Obama could begin governing."
— New York Times columnist Gail Collins in her November 22 column, "Time for Him to Go."

"There are many who had such an optimistic and hopeful opinion of things, and you certainly can’t expect things to change on a dime overnight, but there are many who suggested that with the outgoing Bush administration and the incoming Obama administration there would be something of a lull in terrorism attacks. There had been such a global outpouring of affection, respect, hope, with the new administration coming in, that precisely these kinds of attacks, it was thought — at least hoped — would be dampered down. But in this case it looks like Barack Obama is getting a preview of things to come."
— MSNBC daytime anchor Alex Witt on November 27 talking about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India."

Shoes thrown at Bush on Iraq trip

video from Conservative Oasis

comic from Stix Blog

Excerpts from CNN below
"A man identified as an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at -- but missed -- President Bush during a news conference Sunday evening in Baghdad, where Bush was making a farewell visit. ...

Bush ducked, and the shoes, flung one at a time, sailed past his head during the news conference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in his palace in the heavily fortified Green Zone.

The shoe-thrower -- identified as Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network -- could be heard yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell ... you dog!" ...

"So what if the guy threw his shoe at me?" Bush told a reporter in response to a question about the incident.

"Let me talk about the guy throwing his shoe. It's one way to gain attention. It's like going to a political rally and having people yell at you. It's like driving down the street and having people not gesturing with all five fingers. ...

"These journalists here were very apologetic. They ... said this doesn't represent the Iraqi people, but that's what happens in free societies where people try to draw attention to themselves."

Bush then directed his comments to the security pact, which he and al-Maliki were preparing to sign, hailing it as "a major achievement" but cautioning that "there is more work to be done". ...

...Bush landed at Baghdad International Airport on Sunday and traveled by helicopter to meet with President Jalal Talabani and his two vice presidents at Talabani's palace outside the Green Zone.

It marked the first time he has been outside the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad without being on a military base.

The visit was Bush's fourth since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

Afterward, Talabani praised his U.S. counterpart as a "great friend for the Iraqi people" and the man "who helped us to liberate our country and to reach this day, which we have democracy, human rights, and prosperity gradually in our country"."

Yes, indeed this is what happens in a free society. All people are free to speak (throwing shoes is an ugly way to do it), even those who despise those that fight for their freedoms and rights, still have these rights in a free society.

Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial of free speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race.
~ Charles Bradlaugh, in Speeches

If we do not believe in freedom of speech for those we despise we do not believe in it at all.

The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.

The sound of tireless voices is the price we pay for the right to hear the music of our own opinions.

McCain sided with Obama and scolded the RNC

This explains one of the main reason why McCain lost - because he wants to bend on the issues and go to the other side - instead of standing for what is right. If there is corruption, then we need to find & expose it, not ignore it...

McCain scolds GOP for whacking Obama
In a surprising rebuke to the warriors who fought for him through tough times, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday sided with President-elect Barack Obama and scolded the Republican National Committee for fanning the Illinois corruption scandal.

Obama is not connected to Governor Blagojevich, but all of his friends are.

This article by Mac Johnson from Human Events, explains it so well.

The FBI arrested yet another corrupt Chicago politician yesterday, Illinois Governor “Hot” Rod Blagojevich. This makes two corrupt governors in a row to be arrested for felonies committed in office -- and it solidifies Chicago, Ill. as the most corrupt city in America, narrowly edging out New Orleans. Also arrested was corrupt Chicago politician and Blagojevich Chief of Staff John Harris. The two are accused of attempting to “auction off” Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat to the highest bidder from the corrupt Chicago political scene. An unknown number of other corrupt Chicago politicians and staffers are also under investigation.

Wow! It’s a good thing America didn’t just elect a longtime Chicago politician to be the next President of the United States. ...

...one of Obama’s senior advisors, David Axelrod (a former advisor to Blagojevic) went on Chicago TV on November 23 and said definitively regarding Obama’s communications with Blagojevich on whom might acquire Obama’s Senate seat: "I know he's talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them."

...After Obama’s truthy claim was found to be in conflict with Axelrod’s recorded TV interview statement, however, Obama advisor (and former advisor to Blagojevich) Axelrod issued a statement suddenly remembering that "I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject."

Oh good. That seems believable, especially since there are no other known connections between the Obamessiah and corrupt Chicago politician Blagojevich. It’s not like Obama was one of the architects of Blagojevich’s election to the Governor’s office. Oh, wait… according to Obama’s incoming Chief of Staff, Chicago politician Rep. Rahm Emanuel, Obama, an unnamed aide to Blagojevich, Emanuel, and Blagojevich’s campaign chair David Wilhelm were the four generals behind Blagojevich’s election victory. Emanuel stated that Obama and he "participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two."

This statement went unchallenged for months until corrupt Chicago politician Blagojevich was indicted and Chicago politician Obama denied even knowing who the governor of Illinois was. ...

...Well, at least there are no other connections between Obama and Blagojevich. You know other than corrupt Chicago politician Blagojevich endorsing Obama when, in 2004, Obama won the nomination for the Senate seat now in question. No word on if he won it in a raffle or on eBay. Other than that, there is precious little connection between the two.

Except… for Antoin “Tony” Rezko. Rezko was a major fundraiser for both Blagojevich and Obama and in a remarkable coincidence was recently convicted of… let’s see, what was it? Oh yeah: Bribery. Seems he would funnel money to politicians (in Chicago) and then get favors from them that he would sell to those needing state contracts and such. Like in 2004, he raised $250,000 for Barack Obama’s Senate campaign and in 2006 he bought a vacant lot beside Obama’s house and subdivided it at cost to enlarge Obama’s property, and in return he got… nothing, according to Barack Obama....

...Anyway, other than all that, you can be assured that corrupt Chicago politician Blagojevich and Chicago politician Barack Obama have nothing else in common. Except for being close allies of and recipients of funds from Chicago politician and Illinois Senate President Emil Jones. Oh, and they also share another aide, Michael Strautmanis, who is headed to the White House with Obama. Oh, and… well anyway, the important thing is that Obama is a different kind of Chicago politician. ...

..."While Obama said he had never spoken with the governor about the Senate seat --understandable, given how toxic the scandal-plagued Blagojevich was -- he did not say his staff had not done so.

Which raises several questions:

Did Obama direct or ask any staffer to speak to Blagojevich? Did Rahm Emanuel or David Axelrod, both of Chicago, never speak to the governor about the Senate appointment? Did Barack's aides all treat Blagojevich as a political leper and not communicate to him any interest in or concern about whom he might appoint to succeed Obama?

This defies credulity.

On the other hand, if Obama's staffers did talk to Blagojevich or his staff, did the governor or his men suggest a big-time pay-off might purchase a Senate seat?" ...

Americans Say Bankruptcy, Not Bailout for BigThree

from red planet cartoons

from stix blog

... what's happening so far - excerpts from CNSNews.com
"Congressional Republicans blocked consideration of a $14-billion federal loan for the auto industry Thursday night.

Republicans leaders said they want the U.S. auto industry to survive and thrive, but they also insist that a multi-billion-dollar taxpayer loan is not the only option. There’s also federal bankruptcy protection.

According to the Associated Press, the deal stalled over the United Auto Workers’ refusal to agree to wage cuts before their current contract expires in 2011.

The auto bailout bill, which easily passed the House on Wednesday, failed to advance in the Senate Thursday night. Fifty-two senators voted to consider the bill, but 35 of them (31 Republicans and 4 Democrats) voted against consideration. Supporters needed 60 votes for the bill to advance. ....

...“We simply cannot ask the American taxpayer to subsidize failure,” McConnell added.

McConnell also drew a distinction between the financial industry bailout and the auto bailout: While the financial rescue plan approved by Congress in October was intended to rescue the entire economy, the auto bailout is intended to save a single industry, he said. ...

...McConnell said the simplest reason to oppose the bill is also the best reason: “A government big enough to give us everything we want is a government big enough to take everything we have,” he said. ....

....“Government should not be in the auto industry,” DeMint told the National Review Online. “We’ve set up laws to deal with companies that are financially strapped, and we’ve got bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11, which would allow them to restructure their debt and their union contracts under the authority of a bankruptcy judge, who could help them make the hard decisions that would create a sustainable business.”

DeMint pointed to the airline industry as an example of an industry that has “gone through the bankruptcy process and come out the other side.” He told NRO the American people would have more confidence in buying a General Motors product if they knew the company was reorganizing under bankruptcy protection, rather than “being propped up by the federal government.”...
and some info from Human Events:
"Taxpayers should not be held accountable to bailout the automobile industry or any other industry for that matter. There is constitutional authority for the decades of poor management decisions, forecasting and labor deals that have put GM, the U.S.'s largest automobile maker, perilously close to going belly up.

That constitutional authority is the basic freedom everyone in America has: to succeed or fail on your own, and accept the consequences or the benefits. ....

...GM, Ford and Chrysler are sinking ships. With cash reserves dwindling, their only viable option is to try and stay afloat in these turbulent economic seas is bankruptcy.

Truth be told, it is not a question of if GM will file for bankruptcy protection, but rather when. Bankruptcy will provide GM the necessary protection and some time to possibly turn a dying automotive dinosaur into a smaller, lithe, profitable company that is sized for its shrunken market share. "Possibly" being the operative word.

Filing Chapter 11 protection protects GM from itself. Bankruptcy could free GM from costly labor contracts, provide them the opportunity to restructure hugely expensive pension programs, and renegotiate health benefits. Other unprofitable assets could also be amputated. Bankruptcy puts all options on the operating table to try and stop the massive bleeding of cash....

...Bailing out GM with billions of taxpayer dollars is the wrong approach. GM is not too big to fail. What GM may be is too unprofitable to stay in business." - Ted Nugent

A really good explanation on the Bailouts.... Blame the Bailouts on Mister Rogers?

Throwing money at failing businesses doesn't save the businesses - it postpones the failures. Sooner or later we have to pay the piper.

Here's a parable to understand this concept:
"There is a parable I learned long ago from the continuous improvement management philosophy. It’s called “rocks and water.”

Imagine you want to row your boat along a full, gently flowing river. No sweat. Imagine the water level drops significantly, exposing the jagged rocks along the riverbed. Now try rowing. Can’t do it; too many rocks.

In the parable, the water is any enabling resource of which having lots can obscure problems. In many businesses, the water is cash. Too much cash makes it easy to ignore the rocks underwater. Only when the water is drained can we see — and remove — the rocks. Many of the best organizations keep their water level low on purpose so that when rocks begin to appear they can be seen and dealt with. ...

We’ve let the water level rise for decades, hoping it would keep everyone floating along. The so-called “predatory lending” that some point to is just a sliver of the problem. The real problem is that, driven by well-intentioned policies, some smart pencil-pushers figured out how to create a mechanism for avoiding risk altogether. Make the loans, sell the risk to someone else. This opened the floodgates as it became easy to invest with little apparent downside. With the system set up this way, no one feels the pain — until everyone feels the pain. ...

The river’s drying up now. ...

I know from listening to ordinary Americans all through the country that there is a pervasive sense that, at some point, we’re going to have to pay the piper. The people I hear almost lament that nothing seems able to shake us from our collective consumption and obsession with more. When that time comes, companies will fail. Our lifestyle will drastically simplify. We will feel pain, all of us.

Maybe that time is now. Maybe, with the water receding, we can set to work removing the rocks." (- by Brad Rourke)
We got to remove the rocks at some point - either now or later - pouring more water (money) in the river NOW won't make the rocks (problems) disappear. Later when the river dries up again, we will be faced with the same rocks (problems) and have less water (money) to spare. When are we going to remove the rocks?
