You're No Longer Needed - So You're OUT!

Majority Leader Harry Reid was upset over the Sen. Joe Lieberman's high-profile support of John McCain for president. When Lieberman used a prime-time speech at the Republican convention to criticize Obama as an untested candidate beholden to Democratic special interest groups, this really angered many Democrats.

In the past, Democrats tolerated Lieberman's independent political straddling because he was vital in order for them to hold their slim 51-49 majority. Now that Democrats have a strong hold in the Senate, (55 seats from Tuesday's election), Lieberman is no longer vital to their majority control.

Reid said no official decisions have been made regarding what to do with Lieberman, but one of Reid's aides said that he was leaning toward removing Lieberman as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
